Bridport, VT - September 11, 2008 - The National Association of Professional and Executive Women names Joan A. Korda, owner of Brookside Antiques, "Woman of the Year" in Antiques!  Only one woman from each industry is named "Woman of the Year" and each honoree is selected from thousands of women in their field.  They are chosen based on outstanding accomplishments, leadership and service and will nationally represent their industry in the "Women of Excellence" Registry.

Joan has over 25 years of experience in the area of Antiques.  As owner of Brookside Antiques, Joan oversees all aspects of the business' operations.  Brookside Antiques is an international antiques shop specializing in 17th, 18th, and early 19th century country furniture, iron, lighting, folk art, English oak, and appropriate accessories.  In addition to the shop's Vermont base, they also participate in many antique shows throughout the East and Midwest.

Joan's academic accomplishments include the study of Art History and Music at the University of Michigan and UCLA, and has over a quarter century of industry experience.  She attributes her success to having much prior experience in their industry, and growing up with antiques and an appreciation for them.  Joan gives personable service, along with her son, Tony - who manages her shop.  Joan received an award fro 25-plus hears of service as Secretary of Orwell Fortnightly Club in spring of 2008.

In her spare time Joan enjoys travel, antiquing, reading , exercise, museums and art.  She performs charity work through the Fortnightly Club.  She is also a member of the Friends of the Arts at Middlebury College, Frog Hollow Craft Center, Vermont Folk Life center, Bridport Homemakers, The Bridport Historic Society, and serves as the Director of the Vermont Antique Dealers Association.
